BC homeschool families can use their annual learning resource allowance to cover the full cost of the Foundations course. Here's exactly how it works, step by step.
BC's Distributed Learning (DL) program allows homeschool and distance-learning families to enroll their child in a publicly funded online school. As part of that enrollment, each student receives an annual learning resource allowance — typically around $600 per year — that can be spent on approved educational materials and programs.
This allowance exists specifically to support learning that happens outside a traditional classroom. Music production is a legitimate educational pursuit, and the Vilsen Foundations course is structured with clear learning outcomes, documented curriculum, and proper invoicing — everything your DL facilitator needs to approve the expense.
You don't have to pay out of pocket. Your DL school issues the payment directly to Vilsen Audio Academy on your behalf.
The process is straightforward. Most families complete it in under a week. Here's every step.
Log in to your DL school's parent portal or email your student's facilitator. Ask how much of your learning resource allowance is available for the current school year and whether third-party educational programs are eligible. Most BC DL schools approve them routinely.
Reach out via the contact page or email us at lukas@vilsenaudio.xyz. Let us know you're a DL family. We'll send you an enrollment package that includes the course description, learning outcomes, and an invoice formatted for DL reimbursement.
Forward the enrollment package to your DL facilitator or submit it through your school's purchasing process. Your facilitator reviews the program and approves the expense against your allowance. This typically takes 3–10 business days depending on your school.
If your facilitator has specific questions about the program or needs additional documentation, we're happy to communicate with them directly.
Once approved, your DL school issues payment to Vilsen Audio Academy. You pay nothing out of pocket. We confirm receipt and lock in your spot in the upcoming cohort.
You receive your course portal login, Discord invite, and schedule ahead of your first session. From here you're in — 16 live sessions, one original track, and a community of producers at your level.
Yes. DL learning resource allowances are designed for any approved educational material or program — music production is a recognized creative arts subject. Vilsen provides a structured curriculum with documented learning objectives, which is what facilitators look for when approving expenses.
We can work with you on partial funding. If your DL allowance covers part of the cost, you can cover the remainder directly. Contact us to discuss your situation — we'd rather find a way to make it work than turn a student away.
It's more common than you'd think. The key is having proper documentation, which we provide. If your facilitator has reservations, we're happy to provide additional context or speak with them directly. We've navigated this before.
None at all. The Foundations course starts from zero — no instrument, no music theory, no prior DAW experience required. The entire curriculum is built for true beginners who are genuinely curious about making music.
FL Studio. A free trial is available to start, and the paid version (FL Studio Fruity edition, around $99 USD) is a one-time purchase with free lifetime updates. This cost may also be coverable through your DL allowance as a learning resource — ask your facilitator.
Classes are live and weekly. All sessions are recorded and available in the course portal within 24 hours, so if your child misses a session it won't set them back. We can provide attendance documentation for your DL school's records if needed.
Reach out and we'll send you everything you need to submit to your DL facilitator — usually same day.
